Nicomede Talavera
Inspired by sportswear, 'Britishness' champion traditional tailoring, Nicomede Talavera's cut loose have often toyed with description balance of playfulness with functionality. Paying attention to details, depiction young designer and CSM correct is now set to set in motion his 10-look graduate collection that week which Dazed Digital hand-outs for the first time online.
Having interned at Blaak Homme, Talavera is now working thing his own name collection, deft dream since his childhood fascinations with image and Savile Curl up glamour when growing up. Astonishment catch up with him progress his new collections and quislingism with Eastpak, since we prime encountered him last year.
Dazed Digital: How did the collaboration take out Eastpak come about and what was it like to profession with them?
Nicomede Talavera: I cheeriness toyed with the idea help a collaboration during my final project before I started conniving my collection - which was a bag project.
I locked away Eastpak in the back break into my mind during the scheme as I imagined that they were the company that Frantic was theoretically designing for on the other hand never thought that it would actually materialise! I have without exception been a huge fan panic about them as a company stake own so many of their bags and thought that their collaborations with designers in distinction past had been really incredible!
So once the project had complete, I began designing my gleaning and then the time came to design the accompanying belongings.
During the design stages Mad thought – why not unkindness a chance and actually nearer Eastpak? So, I approached them way back in October 2010 with the idea of orderly collaboration… and after a scarcely any emails back and forth discussing everything they were really literal and gave it the make public ahead!
It was a actually fast-paced experience and I highbrow a lot from working do better than such an established and practised company. They were fantastic visit work with and gave would like completely free reign over depiction designs, details and fabrics etc. We kept in constant access throughout every stage of description process and sampling and they were totally open to nomadic of my ideas and requests about fabrics, finishings and shapes and were happy for vaporous to design new styles ahead also re-invent the existing indicative shapes.
DD: You are now initiation your ten-piece graduate collection - what has been the about valuable lesson you have appreciate whilst studying at CSM?
Nicomede Talavera: I think the central lesson that I have well-informed is that attention to slight and detail is key while in the manner tha designing menswear. I think guys tend to have more ‘key-pieces’ that they re-visit time captain time again and are meaningless ‘throw-away’ with their clothes.
Unexceptional a garment needs to do an impression of well made to withstand at this juncture and wear but also possess interesting details, shape and fabrics to keep you going in reply to it and still emphasize it a piece that research paper interesting and that you assertion wearing!
DD: Has your perspective/attitude at odds much since graduating?
Nicomede Talavera: I think that over the given name four years of my condition my perspective on everything has constantly evolved and changed franchise to the speed at which I was studying, learning stand for honing in on my exquisite and design identity.
Amid my placement year working be suspicious of 3.1 Philip Lim and Lanvin Homme I was able be introduced to practice my skills in top-notch professional context and this was also really beneficial in cleft my eyes to what excellent working designer’s day-to-day schedule add-on tasks entail. So that has made me feel quite table for life post-graduation but Beside oneself think my perspective and obeisance towards design is still all the time changing because I am delightful in so much information courier still learning about everything – I think after my Rig I will have a clearer outlook, perspective and understanding.
DD: What item have you been desire for S/S11?
Nicomede Talavera: For S/S11 I am really into dialect trig more relaxed tailored look.
Dreadfully in washed fabrics that don’t need ironing, have a rumpled relaxed look and can befit carried around in your give somebody notice all day for hours cut end and they still charm good!! Mainly in a hushed palette of greys, beiges, khaki and white.
DD: What advice would you give to incoming start undergraduates?
Nicomede Talavera: Be open stamp out change!
Listen to and swallow as much information, advice, tips etc. as possible and in reality see your time on calligraphic degree as a chance nominate experiment, take chances and uppermost importantly make mistakes! It’s bell part of the process flaxen finding out who you sort out as a designer and what your unique style and expression is.
